The Story Behind the Stone

This piece was inspired by the mosaic floor from the Chapel of the Theotokos, in the Basilica of Moses on Mt. Nebo — specifically the altar-area panel, where the nave's geometric patterning breaks into gazelles, bulls, and flowers, all facing a depiction of a temple.

Here, the gazelle stands on its own. The bulls, the flowers and the temple are gone, and nothing is left around it but open stone. Same gazelle. A different hand.
