The Story Behind the Stone

In this frieze, the wolf represents the darker side of human nature, and the gazelle the good. Between them, a stone heart stands for the human heart itself — caught between both.

Neither side wins here. The wolf doesn't retreat and the gazelle doesn't dominate — they hold their ground on opposite ends of the piece, and the heart sits between them, ringed in stone, refusing to settle the argument. Not a conflict to resolve. A balance to carry.
